In summer 2004, UnionSecure engaged IdeaStar to complete a redesign for unionsecure.com, a joint venture which provides life, accident, disability, and hospital/at-home recovery insurance for union workers. The redesign had fundamental goals of improved plan description, customer service, and online enrollment functionality.

UnionSecure was looking for a site that educated union members on insurance, prominently displayed products and increased online enrollments, while still being simple to navigate. The online enrollment process needed to be completely paperless, while policy maintenance and customer service issues were at the forefront for easy customer access.

Additionally, unionsecure.com needed to capture the personality and pride of its users with its design and imagery. A friendly, familiar site would convey key messages and drive new policy enrollment.

In order to ensure that the site addressed all requirements put forth by UnionSecure, IdeaStar developers and designers worked closely with UnionSecure and its partners. IdeaStar implemented technology which allows union members to enroll in various types of coverage based on their union affiliation.

IdeaStar also worked with UnionSecure to create a professional creative solution. Streamlined navigation and uncomplicated pages generate a simple, easy feel throughout the site, and visitors can find desired information with a maximum of two or three clicks. In addition, IdeaStar designers created a rotating montage of actual union employees’ photos to solidify the site design.

IdeaStar’s development and design teams embarked on the project with goals and timelines in mind, and created a functional, appealing site for UnionSecure. The overall look supports product image, and positions UnionSecure as a leader in supplemental insurance programs to the labor unions.

All creative and technical efforts came together in December 2004, when UnionSecure rolled out the new site and introduced five product options. Since then, three additional product additions are in production, and the site continues to please users and administrators alike.

“Insurance industries are more and more competitive everyday,” says ULLICO Client Services Manager Raquel Fuentes, “We have had a good experience with IdeaStar and now have a Web site that handled over sixteen-hundred online enrollments in March 2005. We are happy with the results.”
